Welcome to Big Bay Academy
Who is Big Bay Academy?
Big Bay Academy is a private & independent school registered with WCED, our Junior & Senior campuses are situated in Parklands, Cape Town. The Academy has also attained the status of a duly registered Cambridge International School fully affiliated with ISASA (Independent Schools Association of South Africa)
What makes Big Bay Academy different?
We provide an atmosphere that cultivates a positive approach to learning, promote non-competitive advancement, encourage self-discipline, & endeavour to build self-esteem, with an undoubted belief that all students have the capacity and ability to gain knowledge & skills, and to enjoy learning during this process. We believe we must find alternative methods and/or techniques to prepare young people to become successful, if a learner cannot learn the way we teach, we must find an innovative way to teach the way they can learn. We endeavour to do what it takes to make a difference.
How do we do it?
Quality, personalised, and individual attention in small groups, allowing each individual to develop & progress within a stress-free environment, are premeditated elements of the learning process we endorse. We recognise & appreciate that individuals have unique innate abilities and talents, but these qualities have to be developed independently to enable them to contribute to society, and hopefully enjoy a fulfilling career one day. The catalyst of this process is a patient educator with a warm & understanding personality, which we pride ourselves on. Our beliefs are that a classroom environment with 20 or more peers just cannot & will not yield satisfactory results for learners who learn differently. Big Bay Academy follows the Cambridge curriculum which is of course a premium internationally recognised curriculum offering students the opportunity to become global citizens effortlessly after school.
What do we want to achieve if 100% pass rate is not of the essence?
Our priority is not only to see learners through school, but to empower learners to believe in themselves, to understand & recognise the crucial value soft skills i.e. respectful, honest, & mindful communication, creative & critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and ethical reasoning. Our goal is to end up with individuals who want to learn, and to be taught, which makes learning and teaching a rewarding experience. Soft skills are difficult and often impossible to quantify, define, and assess, we do however perceive these skills as essential cornerstones of any learning process where constructive development and permanent results are sought.
